Question

Hi guys- 'yall were highly recommended by a friend on another board- and 'ya seem to know what you're talking about, so I'll give it a go!

I'm currently driving a 1999 Acura Integra GSR, about 40K on the ticker. I'm looking to make my car a 250 Hp daily driver with a JRSC. Feasable? How is the best way to go about it?

Most important is to retain daily drive-ability and engine longevity. Current engine mods are: AEM CAI only.

I've been working on upgrading my tranny and suspension over the winter to handle the power- Changed the tranny to a JDM ITR tranny (w/ LSD), swapped struts and springs for Koni's new coilovers, and will be swapping out the rear swaybar in the spring for the JDM ITR bar (23mm).

I like the JRSC because of the awesome torque curve- and I think the LSD will let me have a lot of fun with all that torque!

So- what's the best way to get 250 Hp to the ground with a JRSC? I'm guessing I'll end up using the boost upgrade pulley- or something similar, upgraded fuel pump, do I need a chipped ecu? Or fuel management?

Highly unlikely you will get 250 whp daily driven without a power-adder like NOS. The JRSC can only be spun so fast, they peak out around 10-12 PSI. Beyond that, you are just pumping hot air. You can make the most of that by going with a good fuel management solution (Hondata etc)

Most people here with GSRs on upgraded boost have hit 215-225 whp, which is good for low-mid 13's

You can get 250whp out of your GSR with 10psi boost and a dyno-tuned Hondata or other engine management system.

However, at this power level, I don't think it's realistic to expect more than 30-40k miles before needing a ring job at least. I increased my boost to 10psi with the knowledge that I only put 4-5k miles on it a year.

Anyway, for 250whp, I'd say:

- CRV crank pulley (gives a bit more boost than stepper pulley upgrades).
- 440cc injectors
- Hondata
- No cat or at least a huge one.
- At least a 2.5" exhaust system with straight through muffler.
- Lots of dyno tuning.
- Cooling mods.
- A 3" short intake.

Well- that's completely unacceptable at all!

I don't want to damage my motor- so... mabye I should adjust the goals I have for my car. 215-225 hp (what people here seem to be running)would be just fine.

I'm really more interested in the torque than the Hp anyway. I'll never be a drag racer, but auto-x or just spirited driving is my thing!

Has anyone had any experience with the Unorthadox Racing crank pulley for the Integra's with JRSC's? Supposedly they under drive everything except the alternator, which they overdrive by 20%- which overdrives the blower by 20% as well. That might be the ticket.

I am inclined to think that your first gear with that JDM ITR transmission would become nothing more than an on-demand tire-smoke machine...

Ha! With factory tires, I'd be inclined to agree, but I also recently added 225/40-17 sized Dunlop W-10's, they seem to be pretty darn sticky. A little on the noisy side, but sticky as fly-paper.

That's also the reason I added the LSD- the guy that recommended this board to me is having issues getting good times because he keeps spinning his wheels- good torque, but if you can't get it to the ground it's useless...

250 HP on a stock bottom end IS achievable but yes, it's going to put a lot of stress on the motor and will shorten its live (everything has trade offs' right . 215-225 is plenty fun and with the proper tuning the engine should have a nice long life.

I would stay away from the UR crank pulley though. The prevailing wisdom is that the lack of a harmonic dampener will eat the main bearings eventually.

P.S. SnowHound, You were able to fit 225's on the GSR? do they rub at all? I have been wanting to go larger than 205 on my civic but anything bigger always rubbed. I have found though with the new ITR rack that I don't have quite as tight a turning circle which keeps the tires from rubbing the frame (a very good thing, I don't mind sacrificing a little parallel parking ability if it allows me to run bigger skins)

Yeah, 225's fit. I don't have my Teg lowered as much as some people do though- I probobly have one inch of clearance between the top of my tire and the bottom of the fender rim- close, but not too close!

People kept telling me that 225's would rub, I haven't had a single issue with them rubbing- but mabye Dunlop 225's aren't as wide as other brands? (like some shoes run larger than others)? I'm guessing here.

What's up Doc! Welcome to the board. Did you ever get around to installing the JDM final drive yet? If so I would imagine that it wouldn't exactly be the ideal set up if you plan to boost over 6 psi. As mentioned above, your first gear would be nothing less than a smoke show.
